"Little Bo Peep"
I teach them the "Little Bo Peep" nursery rhyme. Once they have the words well, I add a pat/clap/pat/clap pattern as they say the rhyme. They can say the rhyme, plus pat and clap the beat. Then, I take out the following instruments (Sometimes this is a review of instrument, sometimes this is the first time they have seen or played these instruments): Woodblock, Guiro, Triangle, Cowbell, drum, tambourine. We talk about what they are made of, how they are played and the names of the instruments. Then I show them the cards with the "shapes". We discuss how the cards represent each instrument.
I then say the rhyme that Delelles and Kriske wrote that continues after the nursery rhyme. I don't teach this second part, they just join in when they get it, and they do get it.
The whole poem that is said, while they are patting knees and clapping goes as follows:
"Little Bo Peep has lost her sheep,
and can't tell where to find them,
leave them alone and they'll come home,
wagging their tails behind them.
You can help her find her sheep and
you don't have to look around.
For one of them has an instrument,
just listen for the sound."
Each student has a set of cards (I keep them in small ziplock bags). One of each instrument is hidden behind my piano on the floor, so the class can't see them. One student goes behind the piano. That student is the "lost sheep". The rest of the class says the rhyme and pats/claps. After we say "just listen for the sound". The student behind the piano plays one of the instruments. The class holds up which ever instrument card they think they heard. Then it repeats with everyone having a turn to play an instrument. The kids love this. It is a great lesson to teach timbre - wood, metal, membrane. It is a good way to assess how well students can hear the different timbres.

Very easy structure
Long intro....(you can decide what is best here we waited for 3 (C-G) phrases and then picked up and waited for another C-G and only started
moving the parachute on the A Section)
Section A - Mushroom on each phrase
Section B - moving around anti- clockwise
moving around clockwise
Section A - Mushroom on every phrase
Coda - 4 mushrooms decreasing in size with the decrescendo...sit on the last one. I did this with the parachute and with lengths of fabric
(chiffon/organza/) in fire colours to use scarves would be just as effective!

This again is very easy..Divide the class into 4 teams. I had the children
on the risers and it was like a grandstand effect.
Fanfare intro (tune comes 4 times): Each team waves during their section
(consecutively)(almost like a mexican wave)
Faster trumpet tune (very quick) (comes 4 times) - Each team mimes running
during their section
Quiet section - the Olympic flag is carried in horizontallly - very slowly
- turns around and then is raised and lowered with the music. (we had a far
way to carry it!)
Busy string section - 5 children from each team to build olympic rings and
parade with them (I used hula hoops and put black tape around) So 4 groups
of olympic rings parade around. This has ABB
Staccato oboe/flute - lighting of the torch - one child from each team with
a small torch runs up to a torch bearer in the middle...
Faster trumpet tune - as before mime running in 4 teams
Drum interlude heralds leaving the stage - torch bearers leave/ring
carriers leave/flag bearers leave and then finally grandstand leads out.
We also did Round and Round the World we go with ways to say hello (Hap
Palmer)
Sang the National Anthem (God Save the Queen)
